Carbon Capture Unit One LLC (CCU1), a fully owned subsidiary of Carbon Capture Corporation, secured a conditional use permit and an authority to construct to build and operate a 50 MW peaking power plant. Construction has not yet started and is awaiting the execution of a power contract with one of the local utilities. The power plant
would consist of a natural gas-fired General Electric LM6000 combustion turbine
generator equipped with inlet air chiller, zero liquid discharge, water storage, water treatment systems, natural gas compressor equipment, electric
transmission and interconnection systems.
The Project will utilize water from Golden State Water
Company via a new 8-inch pipeline approximately 1.3 miles in length, running North-South
along Rosenbalm Road (also known as Carrick Road) and connecting to the town of
Niland 12-inch supply line. Storm water will be
retained on site. A new ½-mile
transmission line running East-West along Welch Road
will connect to the existing IID 92-kV J-line running North South along Rosenbalm
Road. In
order to obtain firm service of 10,500 MMBtu/day from Southern California Gas
Company, construction of approximately one mile of new dedicated 8-inch pipeline is required along
Blair Road to connect to the Niland receiving station.
The Project is located on a 10-acre plant site in the
southwestern corner of Welch and Blair Roads. The plant site is located on a 160-acre parcel. While this peaking power plant is a stand-alone project, CCU1,
as the name implies, is reviewing potential technologies and thresholds for
capture or control of carbon dioxide emissions from power plants in order to
reduce global warming impacts. Should the current evaluation prove satisfactory, a permit for a pilot plant may subsequently
be requested at or near the site.
